OUR WOOL

NATURAL - LUXURIOUS - RESPONSIBLE - BRITISH

All of the wool we use is 100% certified British.  It is of the highest quality from sheep reared by British Farmers.  This certification from the British Wool Marketing Board guarantees that the wool is 100% British with no imported wools, scrap wools, bonding agents, linings or artificial fibres added.

Our wool is shorn from live sheep each year in the centuries old tradition of British Farming and during the year the sheep grow wonderful new fleeces to enjoy in our luxurious natural duvets, pillows and mattress toppers made the next season

The standard of animal husbandry on British Farms is extremely high.  Animal welfare and sourcing of the wool is very important to us, for example we only accept Spring and Summer shearings when the sheep are happy to be rid of their heavy fleeces and we never accept winter shearing or by-products from the slaughterhouse.

DEFRA (Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs) and Animal Welfare exercise very strict controls over the keeping of sheep on UK farms, for example the practise of mulesing is in the UK illegal. DEFRA regularly inspect farms to ensure that their welfare regulations are strictly adhered to and you can be assured that British sheep, the sheep providing our wool, are some of the best cared for sheep in the world.  By purchasing products that use 100% guaranteed British wool you are supporting good practise in animal welfare.

We would never support anybody or any company who didn't have these same values.

We purchase our wool in it's raw state and oversee the cleaning process ourselves to achieve the high standards we require for our bedding.  The sheep’s wool is washed and processed in British mills uniquely to our specifications without the use of bleaches or chemicals, leaving the natural properties of the wool intact.

At Devon Duvets, we developed a unique and special way for our wool to be needled and this together with the skill of seamstresses enables us to handcraft each product individually producing light, lofty duvets that embrace your body and sumptuous mattress toppers that provide a wonderful layer of comfort on your bed.  Our needling technique ensures that the filling is a consistent thickness and does not become patchy or clump together with use.

Our wool pillows are also all individually handcrafted and have been designed for health, comfort and practicality.

All of our duvets and pillows are machine washable (domestic machine for smaller duvets and professional laundering for larger duvets). Wash with care using a wool detergent (spin out water well and air dry)
Please do not apply heat or tumble dry our wool as it has not been treated with the chemical element, Chlorine Gas mostly used to make this possible.

WHY WOOL?

The natural properties of wool resist dust mites and can therefore help to relieve the symptoms of allergies or asthma that are aggravated by dust mite droppings.   Natural wool is also naturally anti-bacterial and anti-allergenic making it wonderfully hygienic.

As well as being an insulator, natural wool breathes and wicks away moisture. The soft cotton casing used in all of our products allows this process letting your body regulate its own temperature and maintain a balanced and even temperature whilst sleeping. This can help to alleviate night sweats and cold clamminess.

A sleeping environment is created which is unique to each person and this makes wool a perfect solution for partners sleeping under one duvet who each have different body temperatures.

In view of these qualities, most people achieve a more peaceful and deeper sleeping experience. Studies show that sleeping under wool increases the duration of the most beneficial phase of sleep known as REM (Rapid Eye Movement) and this contributes towards good health, wellbeing and it follows happiness.

“The best way to feel energised is a good nights sleep!”

Wool is a sustainable commodity, and is recyclable and biodegradable as is the cotton casing of our products and therefore environmentally friendly, helping to protect the environment for future generations.

Wool is also naturally fire retardant giving a good peace of mind when sleeping.

In summary, there are many different reasons to sleep in natural wool bedding but basically, it just feels good and once you move to wool we are confident that you will love it.
