Winners in 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023!
We are thrilled to be winners in The Independent's "Best Summer Duvet’" Awards. This marks our 5th consecutive year of winning this award, having previously won in 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022. In the article announcing the winners, we were praised for the drape and snug factor of our lightweight wool duvet, and the fact that our wool is sustainably sourced. They also highlighted that our duvets are handcrafted, here in the UK.
Here’s why we’re experts at creating award-winning duvets that tick all those boxes:
We individually handcraft our duvets in Devon
At Devon Duvets, we’ve been handcrafting wool duvets for over 13 years. In fact, we created the very first 100% British wool duvet, still crafted today by our own professional seamstresses in our workshops on the edge of Dartmoor. We’re committed to responsible and ethical sourcing and so we’ve put love and care into sourcing every component and into every stitch to ensure your duvet is natural, luxurious, cosy and comfy, thereby helping you to achieve a restful night and maximising your sleep experience.
We use Certified Traceable British wool in our duvets
We believe in supporting our hard-working sheep farmers and it’s good to know that British sheep farmers adhere to the strictest animal welfare laws in the world. We only use 100% authentic traceable wool from British flocks, certified by British Wool. The British Wool Traceable Wool Scheme ensures that our selected farmers receive a higher than market value for their wool. Specially chosen for its high quality, softness and springiness, our wool is also shorn from live sheep in the spring and summer when they need to lose their heavy winter fleeces.
Our duvets will wrap you in blissful comfort
The way we craft our duvets is the key. The soft layers of wool are hand cut, then placed and stitched into a sumptuous 260 thread count 100% cotton casing. By making the duvets in this way, we ensure the wool filling can’t move inside the casing and the duvet has a wonderful drape. Wool is the perfect duvet filling because it’s breathable and temperature regulating, helping to keep your core body temperature balanced throughout the night. It is also resistant to dust mites and the build-up of micro bacteria, which makes it hypoallergenic and hygienic.
Our duvets are sustainable
Sheep regrow their fleeces in time for winter every year, so that makes wool a sustainable fibre. Our wool is washed in British mills, without the use of chemicals, which is better for the environment, and also means the wool retains as many of its natural properties as possible. By choosing British wool and then using British mills to wash our wool ensures we keep our carbon footprint down. The 100% cotton fabric that we use for our casing is made with 100% cotton fibres, certified by Better Cotton, a global initiative that promotes and supports environmentally friendly cotton farming. Last but by no means least, because we make our multi award-winning duvets here in Devon, this gives the reassurance that our carbon footprint is substantially lower than duvets that are completely or partially made overseas.
